Mitch Berger, Steelers Punter, Super Bowl Sunday NFL
January 30th, 2009
As we head into Super Bowl Sunday TKS wanted to touch upon some connection with the specialists.
I have had the fortunate expierence to meet Mitch Berger, the punter for the Pittsburg Steelers. As a free agent kicker from Boston College I signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2001. Mitch was the current punter for the Vikings. He was know for his booming kickoffs and eating a snickers bar during the game.
I remembered that Mitch was a extremely athletic, had a huge kickoff leg and was nearly perfect on holding. As a rookie there is enough pressure just being on a NFL team.

I remember Mitch helping me and providing great holds on field goals. I believe Mitch and Matt Hasselbeck are the two best holders are I ever worked with. Later in the pre-season I got cut and Gary Anderson went on to hit 40 straight field goals and set some NFL records. I know Gary was a great kicker and a future NFL Hall of Fame player but that year I learned - “a kicker is nothing without his holder.”
Good luck this Sunday Mitch!
More to come…
